In Their Own Words...
It arrived beautifully boxed and carefully wrapped, with lovely little touches that made opening it feel really special. The craftsmanship is absolutely beautiful, but more than that, Richard has managed to turn a treasured memory of Dennis into something I can keep forever. When you've loved and lost an animal, gifts like this mean more than people sometimes realise.

Oh my god!!! Richard that's amazing! Actually made me quite emotional seeing that. You are so kind. Thank you so much. IÂ Â can't get over how clever that is! Unbelievably clever!

I received three engravings including one of my cat which I absolutely love. I wanted something special to remember him by....Richard composed my cat sitting in the grass....I was impressed by the outcome of all the engravings he did for me. I was kept informed throughout the whole process to ensure I was satisfied with the order. Thanks Richard.

Absolutely delighted with my engravings. Richard captured my friend’s image, perfectly. It’s such a precious item to own and has somehow brought comfort during a time of unimaginable grief.

Meet the Maker behind your personalised laser engraved gifts
Hi, I'm Richard.... I work from my home, here in Ammanford, on a fibre laser, with a mix of software and sometimes AI.
I spent a lot of years in theatre before this, and the instinct hasn't changed much — you're always looking for the detail that makes someone unmistakably themselves.
So when you send me a photograph, I'll chat to you about the subject. The toy the dog wouldn't be parted from.... The chair in the garden your mother always sat in....Those things can go into a piece, if you want, because a likeness is only half of it. What I create is how you remember them.

I work on two materials, and the piece is composed differently on each.

On birch, pieces are usually rendered in an illustrative style rather than a direct photo print — closer to a ballpoint or fine-line portrait than a photograph, with its own unique feel and look.

On Welsh slate, halftone often works beautifully, giving something much closer to a true photographic image.
Â
Which route a piece takes depends entirely on the photograph you send me, and I'll tell you which one suits it before anything is engraved.

The secret isn't the engraving. It's how your photograph is processed, the vision for the piece, the composition, and meeting the brief you've given me.

On birch, every A5 or A4 refers to the size of the finished piece, not the photo itself. This isn't a print — it's a photograph being processed for wood. The grain runs straight through it and becomes part of the image. Every wooden piece is then hand-finished with Danish oil, which soaks into the pores and hardens from the inside, protecting the wood from within rather than just sitting on the surface.

Slate is a different thing again. Each piece, either the standard 20cm x 15cm or the larger piece 24.5cm x 20cm is natural riven slate, so no two surfaces are identical — the texture is part of the finished work, and the engraving sits pale against the dark stone.
